The Marathon Spirit of Mumbai

What do you usually say when you think you have overridden all the odds of something you thought wasn't achievable?.... "I did it!"

Yes. :-) I completed the Half Marathon at the SCMM. How much time did i complete that in? A little over 3.5 hours. Too much is it? Well... i am still cherishing the thought that i managed to complete it, i'll take care of the timings in the next one. I had gone in with an intention of pulling out after the first 4 kms or so... i had zero preparation behind me and shoes that are best fit for a trek rather than a run.Read more »

Patan - Champaner, June - 2009

Recently i came back from a road trip to Gujurat (about 1700 kms round-trip). Patan and champaner were on the platter. I had invited darth_lucifer (from BCMT), however he could not make it due to prior commitments. But since he'd said he was interested in visiting Dholavira excavation site, i striked it off my itinerary for us to cover it together at a later date. Instead i took a detour to Nandurbar to meet Fr. Geoffrey D'lima of Janseva mandal in conjunction with some education projects.Read more »

Trek to Kalwantin, June 2009

"Monsoons are coming.. lets trek!"
Well, that's exactly how my friend managed to convince me. Though rains were no where to be expected in the near future, i was very much in for this. Word was spread among friends, and FOFs, and after some (much expected) last minute back-offs, 8 of us confirmed. Kalawantin it was going to be.Read more »

Waterproof Phone-mania!

I am not much of a gadget freak. I beleive its always better to look at them with the eye of necessity... you may be in a better position to bargain! But this one object has caught my attention of late. They are these couple of water/shock/dust resistant phones. Why own such a phone?Read more »

Slumdog City....

I just watched Slumdog Millionaire. Why so late at it? Well.. i did not have the motivation to watch it, until i read the papers today to find out that Danny Boyle is making another movie, based on the book "Maximum City - Bombay Lost and Found" by Suketu Mehta! Yes, he is doing that! Maximum City happens to be one of my favourite books... and i thought it would be interesting to see whatRead more »

rTorrent - The 3 minute guide

I have tried many torrent clients on Linux, but none as good as rtorrent. Why rTorrent? Because its light-weight. Very Very Light-weight. Some applications tend to be real memory hoggers. Azureus was one of them (when i had last used it that is). The other option i had in Linux was KTorrent. However KTorrent requires that you have the KDE window manager installed... if not the window manager, then atleast the libraries that are required for KDE. But after having moved away from KDE to XFCE window manager, ktorrent was also ruled out.Read more »

Chikaldhara - Sanchi

Travelling to western Maharashtra was on the cards since some time. But where to was the question. Finally i managed to figure out one location - Chikaldhara - in the Amravati district of Maharashtra. Very little (or for that matter "no") first hand information was available on this place (this proved to become a bone of contention later in the trip). Google searches revealed some basic information, which i used to build a trip itinerary. Sanchi being somewhat close to chikaldhara (well.. Ahem.. about 300 kms..Read more »
